🇬🇧 Claire Petit is symbolist of a new sort. Her images are eerily static, as if waiting for the unification of past, present and future. By reducing the background of her paintings to almost formless expressionistic fields of color, she negates time and space with all its pretense of naturalistic representation. Earlier symbolists sought meaning in the external world by painting their dreams and fantasies of that world. Claire Petit, on the other hand, draws us into her memories, fantasies and dreams from which she composes her very personal narrative, through which she appears ultimately to find peace and self-understanding in this world. In Claire Petit’s painting, Dionysian sensuality, chaos and madness vie with Apollonian logic, order and beauty. The Dionysian backgrounds of most of her paintings are various shades and textures of red, a color that quickens the breath and raises the blood pressure. Born to an English mother and French father, Claire Petit lives and works mainly in East of France when she doesn’t set up her art studio overseas. From 1989 onwards, Claire travelled between France and the United States, her first solo show was curated in 1999 by Yossi Milo at the 24 Gallery in New York. In 2004, her paintings were exhibited at the Grant Gallery in Soho. In 2005, she left for Mexico with her brushes where she set up a studio for three months in the town of Oaxaca. From 2005 to 2010, her work was represented and exhibited by Eric Allouche at the Opera Gallery in New York and then in Miami. During these years, she travelled extensively and painted regularly across the Atlantic. Since 2010, her work has been exhibited in France, Belgium and Luxembourg. Her paintings and prints are part of prestigious art collections.

🇨🇵 Née d'une mère anglaise et d'un père français, Claire Petit est une artiste autodidacte qui travaille principalement dans l'Est de la France. Le fond de beaucoup de ses oeuvres est rouge, un rouge qui accélère le souffle et fait monter la tension artérielle. Il rappelle qu’ici, en toute circonstance, à chaque stade de la vie, le cœur pulse avec passion dans la peinture de Claire Petit. Des êtres du rêve et de l’intimité migrent lentement sur ses toiles, de la naissance à la mort pour aboutir toujours à une renaissance. La dualité y respire profondément, et d'une vie à l'autre, l'énergie féminine puissante et créatrice domine, mouvante, introspective, spirituelle, multiple, s’enveloppant d'une violence parfois étouffée.
A partir de 1989 Claire voyage entre la France et les Etats-Unis, sa première exposition personnelle a lieu en 1999 à New York à la 24 Gallery. En 2004, ses toiles sont exposées par la Grant Gallery à Soho. En 2005, elle part pour le Mexique où elle installe un atelier pendant trois mois, à Oaxaca. De 2005 à 2010, son travail est représenté et exposé par l'Opera Gallery à New York puis Miami. Pendant ces années, elle multiplie les voyages et peint régulièrement outre-Atlantique. Depuis 2010, sa peinture est exposée à Paris, Bruxelles, Luxembourg, Metz... Son atelier à Nancy se visite tout au long de l’année sur rendez-vous.
